Select kitchen materials by how each component is used: cabinet fronts, cabinet interiors, worktops and flooring face different wear. Check the product specification and care requirements before approving a coordinated sample set.
Compare components separately
Inspect a sample door rather than relying only on a small colour chip. Check how fingerprints, cleaning and edge damage will be managed.
Pay particular attention to the sink cabinet, exposed edges and access around plumbing.
Try a sample mechanism and check replacement availability. Identify special fittings by model.
Coordinate finish thickness, cabinet plinths, doors and adjoining rooms.
Read the worktop care sheet before choosing
Compare the selected surface’s instructions for heat, cleaning, scratches and stains. For example, Caesarstone’s quartz and mineral care page calls for hot cookware to sit on trivets and for cutting boards to be used. A material described as durable can still require specific daily habits. Discuss those habits with the people using the kitchen.
Ask the fabricator to show joint positions, edge profile, sink support, hob cut-out and the junction with the splashback. View a larger sample or slab where pattern matters, then agree how it will run across the installed pieces. Include the sink and tap details in the discussion; their fixing, sealing and service access affect the complete assembly.
Approve the palette as an installed set
A single label such as “stone”, “wood” or “laminate” is too broad for ordering. Specify the actual product and the details where it meets other materials.

Review the samples together
Place cabinet front, worktop, splashback, flooring, grout and hardware beside each other in the intended light. Check texture and sheen as well as colour.

Record the specification
List product names, codes, finishes, dimensions and supplier responsibility. Keep approved samples identified so a later substitution can be compared properly.

Check availability and maintenance
Confirm lead times before orders are released. Collect care instructions, spare-product requirements and warranty terms with the final selection schedule.
Compare the cleaning routine as well as the sample
Ask the supplier for the care sheet for each shortlisted surface and finish. Check the cleaners already used in the household against it. A finish that looks right on a sample may become inconvenient if normal cleaning products, hot cookware or small appliances need different treatment.
Caesarstone’s guidance distinguishes finishes: its honed, concrete and rough surfaces require more cleaning than polished finishes, and it advises testing cleaning products in an inconspicuous area. Treat that as product-specific evidence. Request equivalent guidance for another shortlisted product before assuming that matching colours have matching care requirements.

- Check how visible marks and spills should be handled.
